Social Media Can Steal A Person’s Joy

The Northeast was hit with a nice snow storm this past weekend. Northern Virginia is near and dear to my heart because my family and I spent a year and a half living in Loudoun County. I was born and raised in Southern California and I spent years daydreaming what life would be like to experience fallen snow. I got to experience a handful of snow days while living in Virginia but eventually God brought us back home to California.

I knew the majority of my friends in Virginia were probably posting snow day photos and videos of the winter fun today. Last year during snow season I would look at photos on Facebook and Instagram and wished my backyard was covered in snow. This year, being off social media, I am able to be not only be thankful, but also joyful for my own backyard.

And it rained today! Yes, it rained in Southern California. I was thankful our state is getting the much needed hydration it’s needed and I was joyful over the fact my father in law carried the burden of taking my older children to school so I did not have to deal with young children in the rain.

Social media can be a platform full of unrealistic expectations. The next time you scroll through and see kids in a cute photo, just remember that kids are kids and trying to get that perfect photo can be like pulling teeth. I want to share with you just how real it can get trying to photograph 3 young children.*Confession I did have to hop onto my Instagram page to get this photo 🙂
