You Won’t Believe How Much Time I Average On My Phone
I was taking a walk through Target this morning and a new notification popped up on my screen. This notification alerted me my screen time usage for the week. It was on average 4 hours and 14 minutes a day. Lets do some simple math. There is 24 hours in the day. I sleep about 10 hours a night (I know, I’m lucky, right?)r so that leaves 14 hours of functional time in the day. I used 1/3 of that time on my screen. CNN reports people spend over 10 hours on their screens a day! The appropriate screen time uses for an adult is 2 hours a day and less than 2 hours if you’re under two.
In my previous post I mentioned I am cutting Facebook and Instagram from my daily routine. Also with reducing social media I am wanting to cut down on my screen time as well.
On a good night I lay down around 8pm but on most nights I don’t even get to sleep until 10pm. I am using 2 hours a night on my phone. As I am typing this post I am realizing I could gain 2 more hours of sleep a night by cutting my nighttime screen ritual!
Here are some tips on how to cut down your screen time:
- When you head to bed plug your phone to charge on the opposite side of your room. That way your phone will not distract you from sleeping.
- Simply turn your phone off. People can call your landline in case of an emergency. And if you don’t have one, VOIP (voice over IP) is really inexpensive.
- Create an alarm on your phone to notify you when a period of time has passed.
Screen time is where Social Media addictions originate from. Without our devices there is no social media.
