Quitting Social Media | My First Few Weeks

The moment I realized social media was a problem in my life was when I woke up one morning with sore fingers. Let me just level with you all. I do not spend my time knitting, surgically putting people back together, or creating beautiful music from an instrument. My finger soreness came from the constant hours I spent strolling up and down Instagram and Facebook. I sadly admit that my poor kids have been subjected to phones being dropped on their heads while I proceeded to stalk social media for the billionth time that day. Really? Dropping my phone on my kids heads?! But waking up with sore fingers was my last straw with myself and I knew I needed to get this social media addiction taken care of.

Could I really have an addiction to social media? Let’s take a look at a definition to addiction. Compulsive behavior that leads to negative effects. Let’s dig deeper and check out the definition of a social media addiction. Spending too much time using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other forms of social media — so much so that it interferes with other aspects of daily life. Research says quitting alcohol and tobacco is easier than quitting Twitter.

If you walked into my house three weeks ago you would find me sitting on the couch with my head down, surrounded by my mess of a house, and my agitating children craving for my attention. I found myself stressed out and angry about the chaos in my home between the toys scattered everywhere. My laundry piled up, my kids cranky. It’s safe to say I absolutely have a social media addiction.

Join me on my new journey while I document my experiences without Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Living in a social media free world, I am excited to see how I pave my own way and remember what life used to be like without the major social media platforms in my everyday life.

  1. Social Media can be stressful at times I don’t blame you if u need to quit it’s your decision and no one else.

  2. I used to tell my daughter get off your phone and take care of your son and clean your mess. Now i find myself doing the samething not cleaning and at work paying attention to only my phone. Where my guest let me know your on your phone or ring the bell to catch my attention. So I’m now learning to set my phone down for even an hour to two hours too cook, sing, and clean which i caught murals doing the same thing as my daughter. I’d like to see or get ideas from you on what your strategy is to get off this phone and pay attention to my household.

  3. I think it’s absolutely wonderful that you recognized social media was stealing your time. Time is a very valuable thing. No matter how much time there is in a day there is never enough time to accomplish every thing we want to do.
Your children grow up so fast. There will be many precious moments to come in the future. I have given up FB, I never started Twitter or Instagram. I’m told often by others that I should be, I figure why start. I feel my time is important.
You can never ever get back time you loose. I have enjoyed watching your coupon videos, which I found on youtube. I had all these visions and dreams of my future and the things I hope to do one day. (When I am older)
At 54 I was diagnosed with cervical cancer, i underwent surgery. 5 months later it reappeared in my abdomen this time I had to undergo chemotherapy and surgery and more chemotherapy. Now at 55 I hope it never comes back. My heart goes out to everyone especially the young children and babies.

My length of time to be on earth is unknown. I can only hope to love and teach and make many special memories.
I love life and I must confess I have too many things I still want to accomplish. I would suggest you follow your dreams make a schedule for yourself and your household.

Raising your children is the most important thing you will ever do.
